The company was founded by 3 former researchers in microfluidics. Our mission? To make instruments that go beyond the state-of-the-art to help researchers to surpass the state-of-the-art in their own field.
Since 2011, we have also created a dozen innovative companies that cover all the aspects of microfluidics. All those companies now make up the Microfluidic Valley and we work in close collaboration with them.
The PhD will be done in four years and offers to be enrolled, at the same time, in Elvesys for three years and in the Swedish PhD student program at the Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg for one year. The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg is located on the main campus of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg (www.physics.gu.se/english), with a total of some 80 employees. The researching focuses within the fields of Atom- and Molecular Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Spintronics, and Complex Systems and Biophysics and is performed in an international environment with extensive national and international collaborations. Gothenburg Physics Centre is a close collaboration with four other departments within the Faculty of Science and Chalmers University of Technology, and creates an innovative environment for all researchers and students at the department.
The scientific project:
You will be involved in an innovative consortium with partners from the whole Europe in the project which aims to achieve the full potential of active matter in real-life settings. A Ph.D. within this network will grant you the best of two worlds: on one hand you will be immersed in our start-up with a strong entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and, at the same time, still connected to and enrolled in the Swedish academic University of Gothenburg, giving you the chance to acquire a Ph.D. degree. Initially, the Ph.D. educational program will encompass three months of entrepreneurship to bring a new product to the market. After those three months of training, you will continue working on an entrepreneurial project in parallel to your scientific project, followed by both academic courses and secondments abroad. The aim is for you to both launch a new product to the market at the same time earning yourself a Ph.D. degree.
The main subject will be to develop a microfluidic platform that enables spatio-temporal control of both thermal and chemical parameters surrounding active materials embedded in a micro-chamber.
Your background: A master degree/level in “hard science” (chemistry, physics, biology, microfluidics…)
Your personality: You like to think “outside the box”, to be put out of your comfort zone. You are strongly motivated, who is able to work independently but who also is well equipped for collaboration in this multidisciplinary project. You would like to take up the challenge of doing a lot with little. You are able to quickly adapt to a changing environment. You are team spirited and like to share your scientific issues with a multicultural and diverse environment. You should be skilled at expressing yourself in English, both orally and in written text, have an excellent planning skill with responsibility mindset and be flexible and accurate.
Important – eligibility rules:
In order to be approved for MSCA financing the applicant, at the time for the application, should not have resided in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Moreover, the applicant must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of his/her research career and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
