FAQ

Yes, you can upgrade your existing OB1 unit by sending it back to our facilities, where we will perform a hardware modification to add an additional channel. This upgrade cannot be done remotely or via software; it requires physical intervention. To start the process, please contact our support team with your OB1’s serial number and the total number of channels you’d like after the upgrade. Once completed, we will return your original unit with the new configuration.

If your OB1 unit is not functioning as expected, we recommend performing a few basic checks before contacting support. Make sure all cables (power supply, USB, and sensor cables) are securely connected, and verify that the power switch is turned on. Ensure the software detects the OB1 properly and that the pressure regulators and sensors respond as expected. If the issue persists after these checks, please gather all relevant information (serial number, a clear description of the issue, and any error messages) and contact our support team so we can assist you further.

To ensure stable and accurate flow control, it’s important to properly configure your feedback loop. Begin by installing a flow sensor with appropriate flow resistance to achieve measurable pressure drops. Then, use the Elveflow Smart Interface to enable the flow feedback loop and fine-tune the PID parameters (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) to match your setup’s dynamics. Proper tuning helps avoid oscillations or delays in flow response. If needed, start with the default PID values and adjust incrementally based on system behavior.

If you’re experiencing issues with your MFS flow sensor, start by checking all physical connections; ensure the sensor is properly plugged into the interface and that all tubing is correctly installed without leaks or blockages. Confirm that the sensor appears in the Elveflow Smart Interface and that you’re using the correct calibration settings. If readings are unstable or zero, try flushing the system, rechecking the calibration range, or testing with a known flow rate. If the issue persists, collect relevant details (sensor model, serial number, observed behavior) and contact our support team for assistance.

When using MFS flow sensors with liquids other than water, it’s essential to calibrate the sensor for accurate measurements. Each fluid has unique physical properties (like viscosity and density) that can affect the sensor’s response. You can either apply a manual correction factor or perform a full calibration using your specific liquid and a reference flow rate. Calibration is done through the Elveflow Smart Interface, and it’s recommended to repeat it if there’s any change in fluid type, temperature, or flow range to maintain measurement accuracy.

Adding flow resistance to your microfluidic setup helps stabilize and refine flow control, especially when working with low flow rates or compressible fluids. A well-chosen resistance element (like a narrow or long microchannel) introduces a pressure drop that makes the system more responsive to control inputs, reducing oscillations and delays. This setup enhances the precision and stability of pressure-based flow regulation. Be sure to adapt the resistance to your target flow range and fluid properties for optimal results.
